Principal Process Development Engineer.

Job Summary: The principal engineer will work as part of the international R&D organisation which is based in Europe, responsible for the development of new device architectures and process flows for CMOS technology, adding features such as high voltage or optoelectronics. The role will demand technical leadership in process integration and cross-site project management skills.

Major responsibilities

- Liaise with customers to understand requirement specifications for new technologies

- Manage projects and technical leadership in the development of new CMOS technologies

- Development and execution of process and device simulation

- Definition of semiconductor process flows and device architectures

- Cooperation with tool owners to define process recipes

- Design of Experiments (DoE) for technology optimisation

Requirements:

- Bachelor Degree / Master of Engineering in Science (Material, Physics, Microelectronic) or equivalent. PhD is desirable.

- Experience with Process and device (TCAD) simulation, parametric (electrical) testing and test pattern design for electrical & process monitoring

Senior Engineer

The ideal candidate has experience with and knowledge of PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) using standard and reactive processes. He or she will be able to fully perform characterization of devices, particularly for passivation films for crystalline and multi crystalline Si solar cells. The optical behavior of such films must also be well understood. He/she has developed products or processes applied in thin-film passivation coating technology for photovoltaic industrial applications & has lead teams of scientists, engineers, and lab technicians. This position reports to the Head of R&D.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• General PV process development using PVD deposition techniques for various photovoltaic applications
• Specific process development of novel optical coatings and their integration into crystalline and multi crystalline devices.
• Transferring processes from one platform to another, i.e. from a “lab tool” to a production tool.
• Ensure appropriate analytical and experimental tools are employed and data generated is properly interpreted.
• Ensure safe operating environment and maintains a high standard of lab organization
• Works with key suppliers/vendors and customers (internal and external) to optimize process solutions
• Leverage Solar know-how and his or her fundamental understanding of semiconductor physics to contribute to other R&D activities, to include, but not limited to, LED’s, thermoelectrics, and various thin film coatings.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Ph.D or Master’s (with relevant experience) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or closely related field.
• English, knowledge of German would be a true asset.

Reliability Engineer - Photovoltaics Systems and Applications


As part of its continued expansion, the Company is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Reliability Engineer to manage all aspects of product reliability. Working with our team of Engineers and Scientists the main responsibilities of the Reliability Engineer are to:

Design comprehensive reliability tests and test schedules for products. This will include components, sub-systems and complete systems for both current & next generation products.
Establish and implement the reliability testing programmes, delivering against stringent time and cost requirements.
Coordinate all reliability testing activities, including those carried out in-house and by external suppliers.
Consolidate the Company's reliability testing infrastructure to support the needs of the engineering and manufacturing functions.
Identify and manage all relevant certification and qualifications processes required for the Company's key markets.
Provide advice to the Company's engineering design team, and management, on reliability improvements in product design and manufacturing processes.
The successful candidate will have a good first degree in a relevant physical science or engineering discipline, preferably in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, Physics or Materials Science. A post graduate qualification in a Reliability Engineering-related discipline would be an advantage.

Test Engineer

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
• Implement test solution for optoelectronic devices (Tunable Lasers, Mach Zehnders, Photodiode detector devices, monolithically integrated devices...) establishing project plans, designing hardware, writing software and building test rigs integrating and assembling all components.
• Responsible for upgrades/modifications and improvements of existing manually operated test rigs to bring them to ATE level. Responsible for all aspects of the equipments ranging from software, hardware, firmware
• maintenance and operator training.
• Ensure ATEs achieve required level of output as required by production demand, measurements are repeatable and test methods are reproducible as required by test specifications.
• Liaise with research to transfer the technical know-how to production providing test solutions for the next generation devices. Carry out specific maintenance and preventative activities when required to ensure functional continuity of the production line. Identify improvement opportunities both in terms of capital efficiency and test time reduction and drive the implementation (automated optical alignment, test software efficiency, GUI interfaces, multi-bar loading, vision machine...)
• Document hardware and software. Write AOI (authorised operator instructions) before production hand-over.
• Other tasks commensurate with the position.
JOB CHALLENGES:

Process Modelling Engineer - UK


RESPONSIBLE FOR: Developing data models on the performance & scalability of the Wafer Fab.


SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION: The purpose of this role is to develop an expertise in the modelling of work-flow in the wafer fab. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and take a leading role in developing software leading to a capability in realistic and objective scenario planning for the wafer fab and suggested changes targeted to improve workflow by way of reduced cycle-time for example.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement data models in order to model the performance of the wafer fab with the aim of understanding the factors which limit tool and fab throughput. Develop software using both standard tools as well as bespoke software to allow modelling of the performance of the wafer fab under various scenarios of up-scaling and change. Develop data visualisation tools to allow easy dissemination of model output and conclusions.
• Develop strong links with the Manufacturing Execution Systems team to ensure data models are populated with concurrent and accurate data. Develop strong links with wafer fab management team to influence and modify the operation of the wafer fab in order to enhance and improve wafer throughput and tool use.
• Support scalability studies with data modelling and extrapolation to provide realistic and objective expectations of upscale limitations on the use of the wafer fab. In particular advise on the effect on the operation of the wafer fab of the introduction of new product lines; the effect of adding new process tools; the effect of relocating process tools; the effect of expanding wafer process clean-rooms and the effect of changing staffing levels, staff skill levels and staff deployment.
• Travel to other sites as necessary.
• Any other duties commensurate with the role.
JOB CHALLENGES:
• This post requires an individual to deploy expertise and data from disparate sources currently existing in order to build a coherent model of the operation of the wafer fab.
• The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the value of the conclusions drawn from data modelling to ensure the best use of the Caswell wafer fab can be made.
• The successful candidate must be able to enfranchise & persuade colleagues at all levels of the business in the development of wafer fab work flow processes based on the outcome of wafer fab modelling and scenario planning by effectively communicating model outcome and conclusions to colleagues with recommendations for future changes to the operation of the wafer fab.
• The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that data models are calibrated against actual current and historic fab performance both in respect of manufacturing execution system records of fab performance and actual production flow and process cycle times obtained directly from the wafer fab. This may necessitate a review of production tracking methodologies in the wafer fab.

Epi Process Engineer


SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION: Support the production and development of epitaxial materials and device structures utilizing MOCVD technology. Specific responsibilities include hardware and Process Engineering support of Aixtron multi-wafer Reactor(s) including back-up support for all reactors as needed. Participate as an active member of the III-V Epi Operations team. Additional responsibilities include participation in Epi Group activities for new capacity development. Supporting continuous improvement in reactor hardware, procedures, protocols, utilization, and material characterization. Focusing on significant improvements in EPI yields and reactor uptime. Provide engineering input into maintenance activities. Utilize and improve manufacturing tools using Statistical Process Control. Recommend and participate in equipment acquisitions, and communicate reactor and project status. As a member of EPI Operations, customers include Manufacturing, Product Engineering and Device Development.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: High paced Manufacturing of High Power, High Efficiency Laser Diodes by use of Metal-Organic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOVPE).

• JOB CHALLENGES: Troubleshoot and diagnose Hardware/Process related sources of variability. Work with EPI Colleagues to drive toward improved consistency and reliability.
• Work closely with operations team to identify opportunities for improvement, and execute improvement projects together with these teams.
Work closely with the EPI Planner to complete required manufacturing assignments on a timely basis.

• MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS: MS or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with at least 10 years of EPI growth experience.

• Expert understanding of epitaxial MOCVD growth and materials characterization; experience with AlGaAs/GaAs/InP epitaxial growth preferred.
• Proven track record of developing EPI hardware and processes to enable high yielding, stable EPI products.
• Hands on experience with Aixtron multi-wafer reactors.

Lead Equipment Engineer (MOCVD)
The Lead Equipment Engineer’s responsibilities will include but not be limited to;

• Support high-volume manufacturing of epitaxial wafers for high-efficiency laser Diodes. These GaAs and InP-based materials are fabricated by Metalorganic Chemical Vapour Deposition (MOCVD).
• Work closely with Epitaxy team to qualify, transfer, and ramp new epitaxial equipment and processes into high-volume manufacturing. Emphasis will be placed on Design for Manufacturability (DfM), as well as Statistical Process Control.
• Improve tools and methods to reduce variability in EPI Reactors.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware-related sources of variability. Work with key suppliers to drive toward improved consistency, reliability, and reduced cost.

High frequency and low noise circuit designer & project leader Department: Transmission Optical Components

Summary of Job Function:
The successful candidate for this role will bring leadership skills for high frequency and low noise circuit design. This will specifically include optical receivers with both, APD and PIN photodiodes, trans-impedance amplifiers and following analogue gain stages with bandwidths exceeding 20GHz. Circuit engineering for both amplitude and phase response to tight tolerances will be essential to meet the demands of future optical phase modulated systems. In addition the job will include design of small signal analogue sections of control and bias circuits for transmitter applications. The successful candidate for this role will also be capable of priming a multi disciplined team to deliver optical component designs to cost and on time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Priming a design team, in particular for optical receiver design
• Interpretation of customer documents and generation of the general product specifications
• Design prime for low noise, wideband analogue receiver circuits to interface to APD and PIN photodiodes

• Influence photodiode designers on l site to optimize photodiode design and physical layout to deliver ease of manufacture of high speed receivers at the Shenzhen site
• Formulation and monitoring of project plans
• Contribute to design reviews and product development gate procedures
• Form an effective interface with E-CAD engineers to ensure optimum PCB layout for right-first-time low noise designs

Requirements:
Qualifications
The candidate should hold a first degree in an electrical and electronic engineering field with significant communications engineering content. A higher degree in photonics or a semiconductor design related field would be a distinct advantage.

Experience
The candidate should have at least 5 years experience in low noise and wide bandwidth (up to 20GHz) circuit design. The candidate must have experience of working with IC suppliers to specify products to meet performance and cost targets. The ability to use 2D circuit simulation tools or write bespoke tools in MatLab (or similar) is considered essential. The ability to simulate the effects of noise in opto-electronic components would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate should have project planning and management experience and be keen to further develop these skills in a dynamic product development environment.

Higher technical education (MSc. or higher) in Physics, Chemestry or Material Science or a minimum of 3 years of appropriate professional experience
Profound technical understanding on encapsulation and soldering techniques on materials used (theory and practice)
General knowledge of PV Back End, specialization on lamination process is a plus
Project management skills preferred
Fluent in English and willingness to travel, 10-20%

We expect

Kenntnis der gängigen Methoden und Werkzeuge im Qualitäts-, Umwelt- und Sicherheitsmanagement sowie entsprechender Systeme
Routinierter Umgang mit MS Office- und ViFlow-Software

Entwicklungsingenieur (System Engineer) - Solar

Responsibilities
Als Entwicklungsingenieur arbeiten Sie in einem Team und haben die technische Verantwortung für PECVD Beschichtungsanlagen.

Technische Betreuung und Koordination der PECVD Kundenanlagen
Analyse und technische Unterstützung der Kunden und des On-Site Teams bei System-, Hardware- und Software Problemen
Analyse und Verbesserung der Up- und System Time bestehender Kundenanlagen
Definition und Spezifikation von Systemen, Subsystemen, Baugruppen und Softwaremodifikationen
Projektabwicklung, Auslegung und Optimierung von Anlagen/Anlagenkomponenten
Erstellen von Herstell- und Auslegungsunterlagen (P&ID-Schema, Funktionsbeschreibung, Lasten- und Pflichtenhefte etc.)
Evaluation von Neuentwicklungen
Koordination und Abstimmund von Mechanik, Elektrik, Software und externen Lieferanten
Unterstützung bei der Qualifikation von Projektpartnern und Anlagelieferanten

We expect
Höhere technische Ausbildung bevorzugt mit Fachrichtung Maschinenbau, Mechatronik oder Systemtechnik
Praktische Erfahrung im Projektmanagement
Kenntnisse in der Beschichtungs- und Vakuumtechnik von Vorteil
Idealerweise Kenntnisse von DIN- und Euronormen, ANSI sowie Konstruktionserfahrung
CAD und SAP-Erfahrung vorteilhaft
Fliessend in Deutsch und Englisch, verbal und schriftlich
Reisebereitschaft <10%
